Hi there, it's so nice to meet you! My name is Ivan Lu, but my customers (and friends) know me as "Ivan the Solar Guy," and I am passionate about helping homeowners save money on their electric bills.
Here's My Story
After graduating from Cal State Fullerton, I worked various jobs but never felt fulfilled; something was missing. Then, eight years ago, I started working as an outreach specialist for Maravilla Foundation, a non-profit organization that helps families save money on their energy bills. The non-profit had a contract with the local gas and electric companies that provided no-cost energy-saving upgrades to families whose incomes were below the federal poverty threshold. It gave me great pleasure to help them save money with free home upgrades like; weather stripping, attic insulation, LED floor lamps and light bulbs, and more. After that, I was hooked and knew that helping others was what I wanted to do with my life.
Fast Forward
My parents decided to go solar a few years ago, and I got really excited when I saw how much money they saved on their electric bill, which was basically free because they paid cash for the system. Then, my dad bought an electric car, which saved even more money by eliminating gas. Ok, that did it; I was sold on the benefits of solar, but there was one thing that bugged me. Most homeowners didn't have the money to purchase a system outright, so something had to give. Then, I stumbled upon Sunrun, who offered a complete solar system for $0 dollars out of pocket through a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA). With a PPA, homeowners could get a no-cost solar system installed with guaranteed lower rates than their local electric company had. Well, that was it... I went to work for Sunrun!
Present Day
Since 2020, I have been helping homeowners all over the San Gabriel Valley and Inland Empire save money on their electric bills and reduce the ridiculous 7-15% yearly electric rate increases, and I would love to help you too! I grew up in Walnut, CA, and went to Walnut Elementary, South Pointe Middle School, and Diamond Bar High School, where I played varsity baseball. After that, I studied entrepreneurship at Cal State Fullerton and earned my bachelor's degree.
